"EMU Diaries" - Day 2

Day 2 – April 2, 2012

Another day kicked in and almost made me run around in the home like a mad dog…first the water heater tripped which I was completely unaware of, secondly I had almost run out of options in my summer clothing which anyways was taken care of by my mother and she quickly made me come to senses.

Got hurried to station to witness a mad crowd as if they were about to pounce on some freebies provided by the railway authorities which got justified later that today is Monday and everybody was grinning and moaning about to get back to work…

Boarded the train in the same way as in movie “2012” where everybody boarded to secure their place from bearing the wrath of nature’s forces. Luckily got seated…thanks to my youthfulnessJ. Slowly as the train picked up pace begun to hear loud chanting of bhajan’s (religious songs for praising the almighty). Unknowingly lips also started syncing with the wording of the chants…as they say worldly pleasures may be hard to attain but praises in the name of the lord comes unattendedEven those who were engrossed in their worries and thoughts suddenly got their mind diverted to the hymns and got immersed in the devotion.

What else would a person need on a busy day ahead if he were treated on the very onset of the day with positive vibrations? With everyone in our bogie surrendered our minds to the chants we all realized later that the train was almost 15 minutes late and as it has been said that keep looking out for joy in simple things and you may one day not be bogged down by trivial issues… Many passengers boarded and were so interested in bhajan’s that they almost stopped looking out for vacant seats  as it was more of creating space for the almighty in their hearts rather than for things in this materialistic world… Train’s delay was equated by the length of the bhajans and thus with the chant on our lips, positivity in our minds and blessings of the almighty, most of the passengers got off including me at the station and proceeded towards the class even though 10 minutes late...

Well I got in no time to the platform and went on to catch the 10.40 AM train which eventually changed tracks from one platform to another as a wagon was placed in the destined platform…in the same way life throws at us some unexpected scenarios when we are caught unaware of… Well I was not the only who resorted to jumping tracks to save my time which is not a good act, followed me were other people who followed my footsteps in the same manner we blindly follow others advice without giving a heed to our decision making skills and its consequences.

Finally the train arrived and few people boarded the train without paying attention to the trains predetermined route in the same manner we people tend to be ignorant and often are found citing the reason as “Ignorance is Bliss… got seated very comfortably and had my breakfast which was not so warm thus reminiscence the fact that “Empty stomach and empty wallet teaches a lot of lessons in life”…  Next to my seat was a boy aged 10-15 was seated and had his clothes in a tattered condition and had a tobacco packet in his pocket which he at regular intervals attended to reiterating the fact that had he been given good education he would also lead a better life…

While pondering about these issues suddenly a jolt brought me back to reality and seemed as if the driver wants me to get off…and guess what I felt as if I am a VIP after seeing that hundreds of people were ready to enter the train without considering the fact that poor souls like us want to get off…the halting of the train also halted the free air which was eventually finding its way through the crowd which was eager to claim the not so acclaimed wooden seats…

Another journey went off showcasing that often we chase petty things in life thereby losing sight of the bigger picture which encompasses much beautiful moments…
